Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Repair engines
  2. Determine job requirements
  3. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  4. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  5. Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
  6. Check engine performance
  7. Perform appropriate diagnostic tests for engine and equipment type
  8. Identify faults from diagnostic test results
  9. Determine appropriate action to rectify faults
  10. Remove engine and engine assemblies
  11. Tag and record engine and ancillary components according to workplace procedures
  12. Prepare engine and engine assemblies for repair
  13. Assess components for abnormal wear or defects
  14. Remove top-end components and dismantle block assembly according to manufacturer recommendations
  15. Select appropriate cleaning solution and procedure, clean and store components not requiring repair ready for reassembly
  16. Replace or repair faulty parts to manufacturer specification
  17. Test engine and make any required post-repair adjustments
  18. Install repaired or replacement engine
  19. Refit ancillary components and equipment systems
  20. Check and adjust lubricants, coolant, fuel and other required fluids
  21. Test engine and make any required post-installation adjustments
  22. Undertake completion tasks
  23. Collect and store recyclable material in appropriate containers
  24. Check and store tools and equipment
  25. Document and report engine repair or replacement according to workplace procedures
