Elements and Performance Criteria
- Repair engines
- Interpret characteristics of surface finishes and wear patterns on top and bottom end components
- Assess components for abnormal wear or defects
- Remove top-end components and dismantle block assembly according to manufacturer recommendations
- Select appropriate cleaning solution and procedure, clean and store components not requiring repair ready for reassembly
- Replace or repair faulty parts to manufacturer specification
- Test engine and make any required post-repair adjustments
- Determine job requirements
- Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
- Check engine performance
- Perform appropriate diagnostic tests for engine and equipment type
- Identify faults from diagnostic test results
- Determine appropriate action to rectify faults
- Remove engine and engine assemblies
- Tag and record engine and ancillary components according to workplace procedures
- Prepare engine and engine assemblies for repair

- Document and report engine repair or replacement according to workplace procedures
